How Long will it Take an Invisalign Dentist to Straighten My Teeth?

An Invisalign dentist can help you to fix a variety of teeth alignment issues. Clear aligners like Invisalign work just like traditional braces. They push the wearer's teeth into a better position by applying a constant force on them. However, unlike traditional metal braces, it is very hard to tell when someone is wearing a clear aligner. Another unique feature that separates clear aligners from traditional braces is the fact each tooth gets the right amount of force it needs to move to a better position. Braces apply the same amount of force on all of a person's teeth making it a less precise way to straighten teeth.

Invisalign is a popular brand of clear braces that can be used to fix teeth alignment issues like:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Poor alignment
  • Small gaps between teeth

How long does it take an Invisalign dentist to fix alignment issues?

The answer to that question is it simply depends. Each patient's alignment issues are unique and that is what determines how long treatment takes. Some issues can be fixed in as little as six to 12 months, while others might require treatment for up to two years. Most people who get treatment from an Invisalign dentist begin to see noticeable improvements within a few months.

What to expect when getting Invisalign aligners

During the initial consultation, the dentist will examine the patient and address any existing dental conditions. A digital image of the patient's teeth are taken and it is displayed on a screen where the dentist runs projections of how long it would take to correct the problems detected with clear braces.

Once the dentist is satisfied, the information is sent to a lab where the aligners are made. The patient gets several aligner trays that look like mouth trays. Each is worn for approximately two weeks then replaced with another. Each tray further down the line pushes the wearer's teeth closer to their proper alignment.

Benefits of Invisalign braces

Invisalign aligners come with many benefits that make them one of the popular options when it comes to missing teeth. These include:

  • These clear aligners are hard to detect. It makes it possible to treat alignment issues without compromising the patient's smile
  • Invisalign provides a more comfortable option. The force applied to each tooth is slowly increased over time which keeps discomfort at a minimum
  • Clear aligners are easy to remove. This makes daily activities like eating and brushing a lot easier. Braces are known for being magnets for food particles. Debris constantly gets stuck in them and it can leave the wearer vulnerable to tooth decay
  • Invisalign aligners can treat many of the same issues treated with metal braces
  • Invisalign treatment costs about the same as traditional braces so the patient gets all the benefits without paying significantly more or less than the cost of metal braces
